Board

Roger joined the Board in December 2021 and became Chairman in July 2022. He is a Non-Executive Director, Senior Independent Director and Remuneration Committee Chair at Jupiter Fund Management plc. He is also a Non-Executive Director and Senior Independent Director at Mitie Group plc.

Roger started his career in investment management at GT Management in 1981 and subsequently held positions at Morgan Grenfell and Invesco as Chief Investment Officer. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Henderson Group plc in 1999 and led the company for a decade. More recently, Roger was the Senior Independent Director and Remuneration Committee Chairman at IG Group Holdings plc and St James’s Place Plc, Chairman of Electra Private Equity PLC and Chairman of Pioneer Global Asset Management S.p.A. He was also a Non-Executive Director of JPMorgan Elect plc.

Geoff Hsu joined the Board in May 2018. He is a General Partner of OrbiMed, having joined in 2002 as a Biotechnology Analyst. Prior to joining OrbiMed, he worked as an Analyst in the healthcare investment banking group at Lehman Brothers. Geoff received his AB degree summa cum laude from Harvard University and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Prior to business school, he spent two years studying medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dr Shepherd is the founder and a Director of Bellows Consulting Limited which operates in the biomedical translational sector, providing strategic advice and assisting clients in moving their projects closer to the market.

Previously Dr Shepherd was a senior member of the innovations division at the Wellcome Trust where she was responsible for the establishment, management and oversight of the Translation Fund, a £30 million-a-year investment into new product development covering therapeutics, vaccines, diagnostics, medical devices and regenerative medicine over a range of clinical indications. Working closely with project teams, from academic, not-for-profit and commercial organisations, she provided critical guidance and oversight in steering over 50 funded programmes from basic research towards or into the clinic.

Dr Shepherd has also held positions at AstraZeneca in late-stage development and manufacturing, at Global Prior Art (a patent specialist in intellectual property) based in Boston (US), carrying out competitor analysis, due diligence and prior art searching, and Brown University, carrying out post-doctoral research into complex formulations.

Dr Shepherd is a member of the CARB-X Advisory board (www.carb-x.org), and a reviewer for Innovate UK.

Hamish Baillie joined the Board on 1 November 2023. He is a Non-Executive Director of Mid Wynd International Investment Trust plc. His executive career was spent at Ruffer LLP, which he joined in 2002, becoming a Partner in 2006. Between 2011 and 2022, he was the Lead Manager of Ruffer Investment Company Ltd. Hamish founded and managed the Edinburgh office of Ruffer and held firm-wide responsibilities in relation to portfolio management and investor communications. He was a member of the firm’s UK wealth leadership team and a Director of Ruffer (Channel Islands) Limited, retiring from Ruffer with effect from 3 October 2022.

Julie Tankard joined the Board in September 2024. She is a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the audit committee of F&C Investment Trust PLC. She has 30 years of varied finance experience and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. She is a Director of Fincom Advisory Limited providing commercial advice to businesses, having previously been the Chief Financial Officer and a Board member of the Port of London. She was also a trustee of a defined benefit pension scheme for six years. She sits on the Industrial Development Advisory Board and previously chaired the audit committee of Leeds & York NHS Foundation Trust, prior to which she held various senior positions at BT plc.

Dame Jenny joined the Board in September 2025. She served as Chief Executive of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) from its inception in 2021. In this role she oversaw the integration of Public Health England, the Joint Biosecurity Centre, the Covid Vaccine Task Force and NHS Test and Trace, establishing a unified agency tasked with protecting the nation from external health threats. Prior to leading UKHSA, she held the position of Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, where she played a pivotal role in the UK Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also played a central role in the UK’s response to Ebola, Zika, Mpox, MERS and the Novichok attacks. Her career spans decades of service in public health, including regional leadership roles at Public Health England and joint directorships in local government and NHS bodies across England and Wales. Her expertise extends internationally, having contributed to health policy and evaluation projects in countries such as Pakistan, Albania, India, Brazil and New Zealand. She has served on the Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) and was a member of the Expert Advisory Group on the NHS Constitution, reflecting her longstanding commitment to evidence-based health policy. In addition to a medical degree, she holds formal qualifications in pharmacology, business administration, health economics and strategic health service planning.
